Mindfulness and Icebreakers – 19 October 2012

We’re pleased to be able to confirm the programme for our next meeting, on Friday 19th October, at the Old Bridge, Huntingdon (click here for location and directions).

Our sessions for the morning are:

  • A “Mindfulness and communication” workshop facilitated by Barbara Reid. Mindfulness approaches help us see things we don’t normally see. During this session, Barbara will introduce the skills of Mindfulness and mindful awareness to listen deeply to ourselves and others. Using these skills helps us to develop a resource base that we can draw on to become more flexible in our own thinking, in the ways we communicate, and in our relationships with others.  The workshop will include space for experiential exercises, a little information, and personal reflection.
  •  A “Trainer Box Tricks Share” session where participants will share their ideas for icebreakers, group energisers and tools for reviewing learning. So bring along an old favourite, or a new activity you want to try out, or something which you want to tweak but aren’t sure how. This is a great opportunity to add some new tools to your box of training tricks and get new insights and ideas on how you could do something differently.

Speaker profile:

Barbara has a long career in university teaching and applied research in the areas of public services management and social policy, and she now works part-time training doctoral students in research skills at Anglia Ruskin University. At the same time, for the last five years, as a teacher of Mindfulness Based Approaches, she has delivered a wide range of Mindfulness-based courses in the corporate sector, the public sector, the third sector, and under the umbrella of adult education.  Mindfulness-based training is an evidence-based approach to psychosocial education that has relevance to health, education, family life, and of course the world of work. She is part of the teaching and supervision team at the University of Bangor’s Centre for Mindfulness Practice and Research.

As usual, we’ll be kicking off at 09.00 with tea and coffee on arrival and will provide refreshments throughout the morning. There will be plenty of time to meet and network with each other throughout the morning and we aim to finish at around 12.30.

The cost for the meeting is just £19.99, to cover the costs for the event.  In addition, for the month of October to inspire you to introduce new friends to our great group we are offering  a bring a friend and you get a half  price ticket, (the friend needs to be attending B2L for the very first time, ie not attended in previous months).
